Ernest Callenbach (April 3, 1929 – April 16, 2012) was a writer and editor best known for his visionary novel Ecotopia, an environmental classic that sold almost a million copies.

Callenbach’s other books include Living Cheaply With Style, Ecotopia Emerging and Ecology: A Pocket Guide. He is coauthor of EcoManagement: The Elmwood Guide to Ecological Auditing and Sustainable Business. He founded the critical journal Film Quarterly in 1958 at the University of California Press and served as its editor until 1991.
